I’ve just finished reading through Michael Faudet’s Poetry books– he’s written five over the last few years – I mostly know him as the book attractive girls pose with and post to instagram and often will get a shout out from him after they do a sexy girl post. It gives you an idea of who his target audience is- people who consume Instagram poetry. I’ve studied into how Americans love poetry but they hate buying it- and the exception to that rule was Instagram poetry. These poems were designed to be very shareable and the type of things you’d write beneath your own post.

This is mostly what his poetry was made for. There is a secondary target audience- your lover who you want to get in the mood. At least with the first three books. Especially if you are dating someone who doesn’t read but likes people to think they do (these books are very short but are rather thick).

That being said, he makes a drastic change in his fourth book. I’m not sure who I would recommend the fourth book (Winters of Summer) to, but it’s clear that some people like it. He gets a little political and a lot less sexy. His fifth book (Cult of Two) is a little better but has similar problems, but it honestly doesnt feel as bad as the fourth book to me.

The first three books have some legitimately neat and shareable poems in them. When I was reading it I found specific poems that I shared with paramours. I even had a funny moment with one that I shared that the woman told be that there are better poems out there and started sending me different poems. So it has a clear use as a conversation starter with people you enjoy. That said if they are too well read you might get some push back in the form of them recommending you better books.

Model Along Side Books was Lucid Mirage (Nicole).
